Lucy Mack Smith, mother of the Prophet Joseph Smith, is a well-known and well-loved figure. We know how she hid the gold plates from thieves, wrote Joseph's history, and was fiercely loyal to her son as he helped restore the gospel of Jesus Christ in this dispensation.
But what of the mothers of other latter-day prophets? What were they like? What stories do we know of their lives? Each of the fifteen prophets and presidents of the Church since Joseph Smith had a mother who taught and influenced him as much as Lucy Mack influenced Joseph. Their stories are perhaps not as well known to us, but are just as powerful.
David McKay, father of the prophet David O. McKay, was telling his family about his mission to Scotland. As he described the fields of heather, the music of bagpipes, the imposing castles, and the thousands of sheep dotting the hillsides, one of his sons asked him if he had seen any miracles while on his mission. David's eyes immediately met those of his wife, Jeanette, and putting his arm around her and pulling her close, he replied, "Your mother is the greatest miracle I have ever seen on this earth."
Filled with such stories, Mothers of the Prophets is a book that will both inspire and delight. In these pages, you will come to know and love the mothers of the latter-day prophets. And your testimony will be strengthened as you see how the Lord sent each of his prophets to a home with a mother that would love, nurture, and teach him - helping to prepare him for his calling to lead the Church in this dispensation.
In this newly revised edition of Mothers of the Prophets, you will get to know these remarkable women, who reared their children to love the gospel and love the Lord. You will be moved by their stories and touched by their faith.
Originally written by the father-daughter team Leonard J. Arrington and Susan Arrington Madsen, this revised edition was recently updated by daughter and granddaughter Susan Arrington Madsen and Emily Madsen Jones. Expanded to include all the mothers of the latter-day prophets through President Thomas S. Monson, and enhanced with photographs throughout, this book is a must have for anyone interested in Church history or anyone who is curious about the power of a mother's influence.

Women's Dress Clothing Donations
We will be collecting gently used women's dress clothing at our Spring Craft event on April 29th to send to the Oakland, California area.
Here is part of a letter from these missionaries:
"[This area] was famous for its struggling beginnings back in the 70's. Now, it is a struggling ward. It is an inner city ward with the boundaries in west Oakland- the most troubled and crime laden area of Oakland. It is also a multi-racially diverse ward. Typically, there are 6 out of 10 African Americans in attendance in RS with the other sisters being Cambodian, Chinese, Hispanic, Tongan or White. The leadership is composed mostly of members from other wards assigned to attend and strengthen this struggling ward.
There are few Melchizedek Priesthood members to administer to the majority of the ward who are composed of single mothers of all ages. It is heartbreaking to see that so many of these sisters don't even have a second pair of shoes, they don't have dresses to wear to church, or something nice to even wear to interview for a job...
But as needy as these sisters are, there is always room in their hearts to love and comfort each other. It is amazing how they rally around each other (and they have taken us in and loved us, too). I love being with them and feeling of their strength.
This precious assignment has humbled us to the core as these families deal with problems that make horror movies. We feel Heavenly Father's love for them as we attend our Sunday meetings and mingle with these wonderful people."
Thank you for your support!
