Ward BBQ

Bread & Butter Pickles

This recipe tastes more like a bread and butter pickle. It is different, and all who taste it love it.

4 Lbs cukes
3 med onions
3 cups sugar
3 cups cider vinegar
4 tsps salt
1 1/2 tsps Mustard seed
1/2 tsp alum
1 1/2 tsp coarse ground black pepper

If taking for pot luck put in a large container or casserole dish. If making this at home for my own use, I start with 1 1/2 cups sugar and 1 1/2 cups cider vinegar, about 1 1/2 tsp salt and just dump in some alum, mustard seed and pepper. I use about 2 large cukes.
Thanks to Sister Jensen for this recipe!

Roasted Asparagus

1. Spread your asparagus on a cookie sheet - a big enough tray that they aren't crowded and touching too much.2. Drizzle olive oil, salt & pepper (I used Onera seasoned salt and pepper)3. Toss the asparagus with your hands to evenly coat.4. Roast in 400 degree oven for 20 minutes (although, my asparagus were very skinny, so I only did 10 minutes...I don't like overdone asparagus)That's it. Easy and yummy. I've been using Onera on asparagus for a long time and love it. I usually saute, but I think the asparagus seemed less oily when it was roasted and it was easier, so I'm roasting from now on.
